I'm not sure which of two candidates is earliest:
- A dream I had, asleep in my crib, of my father's face as depicted in his official Navy photograph, floating above me, saying something I couldn't understand.
- Sitting on the kitchen floor, playing with some toy, while my mother sat talking with someone (probably Babka) at the kitchen table.
The earliest these memories would date is the age of nine months, because that is how old I was when my folks brought me home from the Baby Store™ (February 1958). The latest they would date is age two, because we hadn't moved to Parma yet (that was in March 1960).
